The Floppy 5

Now people who have entered this post via BlogRush might have been anticipating seeing five old men with erectile dysfunction performing some sort of dancing ritual. I assure you this is not the case. The floppy 5 refers to the 5 biggest flops in terms of album releases this year. I'm going to do a dramatic countdown to the number 1 flop of 2007 (well its not dramatic, but just picture dramatic music in the background).

5. Stereophonics-Pull the Pin
Why?: The bands previous release, Language. Sex. Violence. Other? wasn't a great album by any means, but it at least was decent. Pull the Pin is the worst release by the Stereophonics in their 6 CD career. This is so boring, so safe, that it will appear to individuals who listen to Nickleback because they find Pearl Jam too challenging.

4. 50 Cent-Curtis
Why?: 50 Cent claims that if his CD doesn't do as well as Kanye's-Graduation then he will retire from the music biz. Well I guess 50 is packing it in because I can't understand for the life of me how he can make such "threats" as this when releasing such a mediocre album. Remember how good 50 was 5 years ago when he was this up and coming rapper? I'm hoping this is just a flop, and not an indication of things to come.

3. Jennifer Lopez-Como Ama Una Mujer
Why?: Huh? J-Lo released a new album? She sure did, back in March of this year. It's in all Spanish which might be frustrating for listeners who dont' speak the language, but even if you do, you'll find it just as bad. Now I've never been a huge fan of her music, but I respected her as a singer and knew that she had some talent. This album shows none of it. Marc Anthony, her husband and well-known singer, produced the HELL out of this album and its painfully evident. It's so boring and the ballads are extremely dull.

2. Soulja Boy-souljaboytellem.com
Why?: It's almost unfair to call this the 2nd biggest flop of the year because there isn't a prior release to base this on, but this album is the most overrated album I have ever heard. Soulja Boy isn't good. Listen to the worst of rap that existed 10 years ago and try to tell me that the lyrics and music on Soulja Boy's album is better. You can't.

1. Prince-Planet Earth
Why?: Again, this is another artist who I was never a huge fan of, but always respected his work. In the 80s he was the Prince of pop (under Michael Jackson's reign of being the king). His newest release just shows you that it's time for him to hang up his crown and realize that he's lost all of his artistic ability. He's like that guy who has worked in the office for 50 years and refuses to retire, but is obviously too old to do his job and feels the need to tell everyone how to do theirs. This CD actually didn't get bad reviews, but after listening to it I wonder how that is possible.
